STATISTICAL NEWS RELEASE: CRIME IN ENGLAND AND WALES 2009/10
15th July 2010 The latest National Statistics on crime in England and Wales are released today. They are based on interviews from the British Crime Survey (BCS) and crimes recorded by the police in the financial year 2009/10. Each source has different strengths and weaknesses but together they provide a more comprehensive picture of crime than could be obtained from either series alone.

15th July 2010 Responding to the publication of the annual Crime in England and Wales crime statistics Home Secretary Theresa May said:
“Any reductions in crime are welcome, but we know these statistics offer a partial picture about the true level of crime. And there are many offences, including antisocial behaviour, which are not always reported or fully recorded, but which ruin too many lives.
APA: POLICE AUTHORITIES ENSURE MONEY MEANT FOR POLICING IS SPENT ON POLICING
15th July 2010 Speaking following a call from the Local Government Association for accountability of policing to be returned to local councils, Association of Police Authorities (APA) Chairman Rob Garnham said:

ASSOCIATION OF POLICE AUTHORITIES COMMENTS ON BUDGET CUTS AND CRIME FIGURES
15th July 2010 Commenting on the impact of budget cuts on the police service, and today’s crime figures, APA Chair Rob Garnham said:
“There is no doubt that the police service will feel the pain of the impending cuts, and that, somewhere along the line, this will impact on the roles of police officers and staff. With over 80% of the policing budget spent on our workforce, it is inevitable that jobs will be affected. Police authorities hold the purse strings for policing. It is our role to ensure the focus on efficiencies continues, whilst also maintaining the decreases in crime that communities want to see.
ACPO RESPONSE TO ANNUAL CRIME STATISTICS ENGLAND AND WALES 2009/10
